According to my daughter, the sound of her Tukan has improved slightly.

However, differences can be heard between the Dayton Audio and Solen Caps. I now prefer the Solen capacitors, which are better in the bass range and sound a little freer in the high frequency range. The Dayton Audio of the Keilidh will probably be swapped for Solen.

New test:
K400 split according to Fredrik's recommendations with Deltron banana plugs against cheap screwable banana plugs. I don't trust the screws to be subject to much stress and are tightened to 0.3Nm. The ends are not soldered.

Unfortunately there are differences in volume. I hope they don't irritate you too much.

I vote for A on all songs. B is pretty good though but they don't fully sing yet.
Mayhaps you should check what happens if you loosen the torquing of the speaker elements a bit?

Thanks Whatsmynaim
The chassis are torqued and tested immediately after changing the crossovers. But it's still a good idea to investigate this again, because the Tukans with Solen capacitors continue to surprise me.

A for me too.

It's not only a matter of volume, but the sound character is very different between the A and B clips. As if A was recorded in the middle of the room and B near a corner.

Ok, this effect was also evident when listening via the JBL308, but not in the room. So it will be taken up again tomorrow with new batteries for the Zoom H4.

Interesting! My preference is for B. A reminds me of what I hear when I walk into most rooms at hifi shows: there’s an incoherence which makes me feel quite uncomfortable. It’s immediately noticeable, even without comparing to B.

A for me.

Particularly on the last track, the bass in B seems slightly disconnected from the main melody.

I think I prefer "Before". The energetic presentation of "after" has it's charm though.

I prefer "Before" too, there's something off about "after".

That's really weird, both have issues,

Before falls a part when the band gets going, looses the tune.

After sounds like the band somehow starts on the wrong foot, like this same piece of music is somehow inverted by comparison in ways, but it holds together better when the band gets going, more in tune.

I’m torn!

Before is a bit sloppy. After is energetic and expressive, but also a bit staccato?

I found After more fun to listen all the way to the end, so I’m leaning that way.

For similar reasons to those already expressed by tpetsch & Fredrik, I preferred 'after'

I think that the clips are pretty representative of what I hear in the room, so it's v interesting and helpful to read what you all think of them.

I think that Fredrik's description of 'sloppy' for 'before' is very apt.

I have made some more changes and will record another clip before making what I hope will be the final changes.

I find this a fascinating process and I am surprised at both the degree and the character of the differences I hear - tho that is just inexperience on my part. I'm sure anyone who's been in this game for a while would be v unsurprised.

I have recorded a third clip. Please let me know which you prefer.

If you have already compared 'before' and 'after' maybe just compare 'after' and 'tighter':

Before https://photos.app.goo.gl/GLNGC4sH8m22yrGL9
After https://photos.app.goo.gl/MJBvuVvxY42QR3D4A
Tighter https://photos.app.goo.gl/hTy2DyEAqzujSJoW8

"Tighter" is best so far by being a more confident version of "Before.
It also have none of the hyper or jittery presentation I heard when listening to "After".
Good job!

Edit: This rarely happens for me here but I've changed my mind. "Before" is still the one I prefer.

Tighter 'sounds' better but is a bit up tight musically. I still prefer after for its more fluid engagement.

I'm not keen on tighter.

And on this track I slightly prefer before to after.

Isn't it the same track? I thought you preferred after before; now you prefer before after all? ;) Just having fun :)
