Something the developers of the forum/website can do, is to make the font size bigger on the smallest devices.

There are much better solutions. Did you read the complete thread?

Hi Matt,

I'm sorry, I'm not talking about the mobile version.

I can't access that because my devices use the standard version, and in standard version, the font could be increased for the smallest devices in the css.

I would skip the mobile version all together, it had it's time, but it's 2015.

I posted this query in another thread by mistake.
I didn't receive an email notification that I had a private message. This is the first one on the new forum. Has anyone else had this?

Looks like you have to tick the "Email" box as well as the "Notification" box for "New PM" in the User Control panel (direct link here):

This appears to be a default which has changed since the old board. Might be good to reset it for everyone.

Right now it's become exactly 50/50 regarding whether to improve the mobile version or throw it out.

In addition:
One vote for slightly increasing the font size on the desktop version.

One vote for the same thing on the mobile version.

Author should move to the left of the message in the desktop version (2 votes).

A View New Messages button should be added to the top left on the first page (1 vote).

Latest Post: Subject, author, time should be added to each sub forum on the first page of the mobile version (many votes).

Birthdays should be removed from the first page (1 vote).

Anything else?

Fredrik,
the question is how to proceed.
Should we make a decision for one version and try afterwards to improve this version as much as possible
or
should we gather suggestions for improvements for both versions and make a decision for one version afterwards.

I'm using chrome on my phone, a Sony Xperia z3 compact and I think the forum is great, I've viewed it on a laptop too and I can't see a massive difference between the two. Am I missing something?

Matthias and Ozzy:

I am right now looking at removing the last adaptions that are made to a smaller screen. If you check the forum on a computer (the desktop version) and shrink the window, you will see many steps of rearrangements to fit the smaller window. Depending on whether you look at a thread (like this one) or the start page, there will be different things happening at different sizes.

The last couple of steps are the ones I'd like to try removing. Then desktop and mobile appearance will be very similar.

For me the greatest difference between a desktop and a mobile version has to be the signs per line in a text. Much more than 40 signs per line on a mobile screen is not user-friendly and should be avoided. Regarding this point the desktop and mobile appearance will not be very similar. But otherwise you are right.

Fredrik,
I counted the signs per line on the mobile and it is around 66.
IMO, it is to much.
Can you reduce it to 40 to 50?
Otherwise it is very good!

Ahhh, something has changed. I now have to zoom in to make reading more comfortable, whereas before it fitted just right. Is this what folk didn't like? Can't say I'm bothered either way, a double tap sorts it out.

Yeah,
with the "old" mobile version we had around 50 signs per line, now we have around 66 signs per line.
40 to 50 on a mobile screen is just right.
It is a little bit like fine-tuning an electronic component......

I was very pleased with the new forum in my iPhone 5s. Did not have a single negative point of view or suggestions for change.
Today, however, now I think the forum is too small in iPhone 5s. Now I have to zoom all the time for two reasons.
1) to click in the right place, with my finger
2) to be able to see the text at a comfortable size.
These two reasons may seem trivial but it means I have to use two hands instead of one. In addition, a lot more fiddle to navigate. Too bad on something that was so perfect.

Have not tested on iPad yet but I guess I do not get the mobile version on iPad.

I just visited the forum on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I don't like the changes at all. The advantage of not needing to zoom or flip the device is gone, all text is too tiny to look at.

This was a change for the worse, IMHO.

Personally, I like the change. No need to "pinch zoom", just double tap the text with your thumb and it goes to full width, so easy with one hand but still lets you see everything if you want to.

Now, the forum is broken.

It makes no sense to have different standards on your website and forum.

Come on, we are not inventing the wheel.

Now adjusted.

Feel free to comment on the new format!

What's happened is that the "mobile version" rearrangements have disappeared. So it's now essentially a desktop version that is shrinking in line width - to a certain point - when the window/screen is smaller.
