Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I'm definitely liking the music coming through these, although I do miss the other notes. I have always loved Bouree and am big into Jethro Tull, at least up through most of the 70s. The bass has a very rounded, juicy quality that I quite like and the notes are easy to follow. You might want to loo...

Re: How we define "good sound"

Can't recall a concert that sounded so bad I couldn't enjoy the music. Most sound pretty rough. Been to some half-decent indoor ones though. I saw Elton John when he was being sponsored by Roland. He sat centre front with a Roland electric piano which sounded so incoherent/out of tune, every song w...

Your Jern’s look fab under the window Fred11! I really like HiFi systems which blend into their environment without drawing attention to themselves.

Re: Linn Keilidh Versions

The only change I have a clear memory of is the first tweeter upgrade, which I felt to be a significant upgrade in both sound and musicality. I’ve got a feeling that there was a cabinet upgrade too, which included the addition of a Kustone block. The earlier tweeters looked like Scanspeak/Hiquphon d...

I think they are sounding great. Maybe I am wrong by just comparing the volume of the speakers to the 3677s for filling a 50 sqm listening room.
Ah, ok. I understand. This is something I’ve wondered myself, but until I’ve tried them in a larger room I won’t really know.

IMO, when it is ready it might be a very nice speaker in a smaller listening room.
What makes you think that Matt?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Thanks gents. Re the bass unit position: tbh, it came about by chance whilst determining the optimal enclosure volume. I built a conventionally shaped enclosure with a rear panel which could be moved back and forth, altering the internal volume. Due to the relatively large area of the rear panel, ju...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Here’s another update on my diy loudspeaker project. I’m still only listening to one loudspeaker, and the loudspeaker is just sitting on the floor without any coupling/decoupling, and imperfectly sealed.

I’m a bit late due to wanting to be sure before posting, however I feel a bit of a dick posting when the answer has been announced! Of the five clips I prefer no.3. However I prefer no.2 slightly to no.4 and definitely prefer no.2 to no.5, which skews my preference slightly away from n.3 towards no....

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I’d recommend cutting up a Linn mains lead with the writing running against the direction of current flow, making sure the cable is reversed in the distribution unit. I’ve done this with an old MK distribution unit and at the time I thought the results were quite good.

That depends entirely on what the measurements are and how well they are done, which is why I asked the question the first place.
Do you know of any measurements which correlate with sound quality or our enjoyment of music?
Yes

OK. Given that you’re asking for advice on a way forward on this particular forum, we need to be thinking about how you can improve the tune playing ability of your system. I’ve heard quite a few Linn home theatre setups and although they sound very impressive, not one of them was capable of making ...

Hello Ninth Wave,

It’s often said that if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there! With this in mind, where do you see yourself going with your system? What’s your end goal? When you know this, deciding upon the next step is relatively easy.

It’s not a price based rating system. Many manufacturers charge posh nosh prices, but sadly all they deliver is pub grub fare.
