Re: Snakeoil OS
I've just got Snakeoil installed on my Hakai as a renderer, and it's working. I haven't got the activated version, so I installed upmpdcli manually via SSH. The weird thing to do to get it going is the player selection. I selected the server to be on, with MPD 20, or 21 if you have the latest firmwa...
Re: Volumio.
The first thing that comes to mind is the audio buffer setting. Maybe this new version has a different default. Try increasing it to see if it makes any difference.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I take that back. 0.21.xx is better. I was distracted by some "sound" qualities, not musicality.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I think mpd is already doing the converting, which is why it's stuttering. It has to get down to 16/44.1 to be output

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
Do you have minimserver? You could specify to convert flac above 16/44.1 to wav or flac 16/44.1. That might still let you use 256.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I used the build it yourself method originally listed. I think the audio buffer size has a greater impact on the 0.20.xx versions.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
Yes, 0.20.21
Maybe it suits my system more than the later versions. It sounds more live and emotional to me.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
After more variations, I've got it to sound the best it has yet. I'm finding MPD 0.20.21 the best sounding version. Why that's different to my previous thoughts are I hadn't realized the mpd.conf file didn't have an audio_buffer setting, so it was using the default 4096. Once I put it to 256, wow. I...

Re: Road Runner 2 - HAKAI 5
With the 3160 motherboard and no keyboard connected I get 5 beeps as well. That's all it's telling you.
This doesn't happen with the 3050 motherboard.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
Just tried 0.21.4, still no WAV playback. I might have been imagining it, but it might not have sounded as good as 0.21.3? I've gone back to 0.21.3 anyway.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I've just tried playing some WAV files, and they aren't playing. They worked in Volumio with the updated MPD and upmpdcli. I'm using MPD 0.21.3 and upmpdcli 1.3.8 Just did a comparison with MPD 0.20.21, which is what I have on my Volumio disk. It doesn't sound as good as 0.21.3, but it plays the WA...

Re: Volumio.
That doesn't disable volumio, it still starts on reboot.Sopper wrote: ↑2019-01-04 09:36
You can disable the service at start up I guess and rebootYou will have to manually start volumio withCode: Select all
sudo systemctl disable volumio reboot
Code: Select all
sudo systemctl start volumio
Re: Volumio.
Is there a way to disable Volumio on startup? For me the system environment on the Volumio install works for everything (with updated mpd etc), where as the Stretch install has some issues for me.
Re: Volumio.
I wonder how much difference there is between the Debian Stretch install and disabled Volumio?

I do seem to have that. I did the install you suggested and it said it already has the latest version.

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
I've managed to install Debian Stretch and it does sound better than Volumio. One thing I'm struggling with is wifi. I have a usb dongle that was working fine with Volumio, no driver needed. I'm not sure how to get it working. I'm trying to use wpa_supplicant, but I don't know how to install it. Wou...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch
Sopper, in your testing of various software elements, do you think it's worthwhile testing mpd 0.20.23 vs 0.21.3 in Stretch? Just to confirm the later version is better.
Re: Volumio.
I've successfully updated mpd and everything works wonderfully. No more stopping or not playing. Thank you Sopper.
Re: Volumio.
It seems there would only be 3 versions that could be tested. The June release that I think everyone wold have. The development build from April, and the new one recently released. I've been trying to do the mpd update on the June version, but it fails in the build stage. Will this only work for the...
