Re: Utopik upgrade
I added a Utopik to my ADS Kat about a month ago. It is a very worthwhile upgrade - at least as big as when I upgraded to the Katalyst board. So regardless of pricing debates, it is well worth doing. The sound is more like music - another step towards having a band in the room. Don't expect immediat...

Re: What’s Slam Got To Do With It?
For me, slam, is really a lower frequency transient, caused by say an energetic plucking of a double bass string or a crack on a drum. The joy of hearing it might very much depend upon whether it was there in the original performance. Is it simply the crack of a speaker cone reaching the end of its ...

Re: Utopik upgrade
I just asked the same question on Linn's Instagram and received an immediate response: The warranty only covers the power supply. Very, very disappointing I think you are being unrealistic, perhaps you expect too much from your hifi suppliers. Try this: Go to you local garage and ask him to fit a n...

Re: Utopik upgrade
And again Linn's retailers should dispose the old PSU-card, Dynamik or older, so the owner could not sell it or use it in another item. Same as when upgrading to Radikal 2, motor control card and motor in the garbage. Reprehensible. Why on earth should Linn's retailers dispose of "my", already paid...

Re: The value, appreciation of music in younger days and at some age
I think it is very difficult to judge one's appreciation of the music of one's younger days. Especially if, like me, you were a teenager in the 1960s - a time when so much great music was being created and popularised by records and radio stations. So, for the sake of argument, I suggest that much o...

Thank you Jacob
It is what I suspected but nice to hear it from somebody who knows.
It is a shame that Linn have not addressed this because there is some beautiful stuff on YouTube.

syncing Youtube with Linn streamer
Can one of you wise people please point me in the right direction? I rather like viewing old pop videos on Youtube on my iPad, and having the audio play via my Linn ADS on the Net Aux input. Connected to and from my iPad via wifi of course. The rest by ethernet. Some recordings are amazingly musical...

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.
Further to the above - I will just comment without starting a new thread on fuses — that simply as a matter of safety I replaced the 13 Amp fuse on the 3 socket power strip above with an old 5 amp fuse from my tool box. I did this simply for safety reasons. If anything draws about a kilowatt, then b...

This is worth a punt if you are in the UK.
- the code is too long to work by a direct link but look this up on e bay:

Thightens things up. No neon to have to destroy. Have put my digital boxes all together. An improvement.

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions
Hearing acoustical instruments perform live incorporates the same effect. Higher frequencies travels faster. In fact, a good symphony orchestra compensates this effect to a certain degree by having the double basses being slightly "pushy" in there playing. The same in a jazz quartet, with the bass ...

Re: Källa overview
I am assuming that my KDS And sneakys work in a similar fashion to Kalla with the control point . In which case the choice of device for the control point will also affect musicality. Perhaps someone can explain how control points can affect musicality when they are used simply to load a series of ...

Fix your address on it as well as your router.
Also it will prevent playlists which hold absolute addresses becoming useless.

Re: Källa overview
Personally I am disappointed that the Kalla does not have an onboard volume control that can be bypassed. I am aware of the sonic preferences for preamplifiers. But it would mean that one could start with a simpler system and regard a preamplifier as an upgrade when funds allowed. As an ADS Kat user...

When you purchase a file from a streaming company, what do you get?
I have never heard a purchased Qobuz file sounding worse than a Qobuz streamed one?
Should it?

Re: Akurate DS versus DSM
Thank you Matteo for your thought provoking comments. In what ways is an LP12 a better "transport" than a digital streamer? Wow and flutter? Cross-talk? Signal to noise ratio? Introduced distortion? I guess it is just because it is "more musical". Forgetting about the complexities of delivering Qobu...

Re: Boazu with Majik140
This is turning into an interesting thread with a helpful variety of views. Just a couple of points. Many recordings bring to the mix, quite literally, the room characteristics of the concert hall, or the amount of bass reverb the producer wishes to add. So in one's own room one is trying to make se...

Re: Boazu with Majik140
I do think Sunbeamgls has a point. Where does the music start?? My guitar has a phase switch, a notch filter and a couple of tone controls. My amplifier has a reverb (actually mechanical), and numerous tone filters. It is then usually miked up from a few feet away to go into the desk for recording o...

I had some Spendor A6 once. Rather relaxed, unexciting to some ears, restful to others. Not the same as the A4 - I know. Re: A special human skill
Music that is recorded digitally can never be closer to the musicians than it is on the hard disk in the recording studio. It's just entropy after that. The vinyl recording and reproduction process may indeed mellifluously embellish the sound. But to eschew digital sound is to throw away most record...
