Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thanks Pete. I don’t know how long Fredrik’s solder takes to settle down, but the difference can be huge, so this is worth taking into account. Similarly, silicone sealant also appears to take a few days to fully harden. Your conclusion re the siliconed drive units is interesting too. There are a fe...

I think I still prefer before, for what sounds to me like the most musically coherent version of the three.

Re: Linn silver interconnect
David Neel and myself spent an afternoon comparing Black’s and Silver’s against some very expensive interconnects made by a highly regarded hifi manufacturer. Whilst the expensive cables had some interesting audiophile qualities, in terms of pure musicality, both of the Linn’s were vastly superior. ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Interesting! My preference is for B. A reminds me of what I hear when I walk into most rooms at hifi shows: there’s an incoherence which makes me feel quite uncomfortable. It’s immediately noticeable, even without comparing to B.

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
The nearer my system is to the way I like to hear music reproduced (musical: ie, tuneful and harmonious) the less frequently I find I’m not enjoying it. It feels like the only component in my system which lets the side down at the moment are my diy loudspeakers ☹️, but the better they get, the long...

Spotify has put together a playlist called The Meters Radio. I’m enjoying it so much I thought I’d share it with you all.

I love the way everything (system, room, view) combines to produce a beautifully harmonious listening environment. I can imagine it being a real joy to listen to music in there 😊

Re: Linn Akito/1 Refresh
Sticky bearings will almost certainly cause you to lose musicality, so the bearing replacement may be worth the gamble. If it doesn’t work out for you, you can sell it and get a within spec Akito. Either way you should end up with something better than you have now 🤞

Re: Linn Akito/1 Refresh
I haven’t heard the J7 modification, but my first thought was to not gamble on it being an improvement. Almost without exception, every audiophile upgrade I’ve heard has resulted in an improved sound at the expense of musicality. Also, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the wiring in the Akito, s...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thank you guys, B is the Tukan with the new Dayton Audio capacitors. At this point, the loudspeakers had been used for around 50 hours and should be worn in. When the Keilidh crossover was rebuilt, my wife described the second system as the little sister of the big one. It actually is and reason en...

Re: Speaker Choices for Lejonklou amplifiers…?
I’d be wary of any conventional loudspeaker with a low minimum impedance. Given that most drive units have an impedance above about 6Ω, a low loudspeaker impedance is likely due to an overly complex crossover attempting to compensate for shortcomings in the combination of drive units and trying to f...

Spannko, I suggest you try adding a GS108T (or 308). I've just tried going direct from my 4G router (Huawei B535-333) and quickly re-inserted a GS108T. It will be interesting to see if your 4G router produces a different result... I think I have a spare GS108T I could lend for tests Sorry for the l...

Re: Hermanns System
For me, A is a fairly uncomfortable listen to the extent that I feel quite agitated and restless. It suffers in both rhythm and tune departments. B seems to be completely different. It’s harmonious and restful.

Re: Loudspeaker Internal Wiring
It’s often said that the Dayton’s are rebranded Bennic’s, which is another capacitor Linn have used in the past. The Bennic’s are extremely difficult to get hold of and the only retail supplier I know of are in India. The European distributors don’t appear to be still in business and it looks like B...

Re: Speaker Choices for Lejonklou amplifiers…?
Hi Zee9, Your LP12 is an excellent source, and as you’ve discovered, bettering it digitally is difficult and expensive. As Pete has already suggested, the only streamer which plays music like an LP12 is the Källa. Do you want to be spending 4-6k on another source? There’s also the option of selling ...

Re: Neil Young and Joni Mitchell back on spotify
Spotify is more than good enough to show the difference between the 2009 remaster of Harvest and the 50th anniversary version. The 2009 is awful, but they seem to have done an excellent job on the 50th anniversary. Let’s hope we see more re-remasters with the compressors and limiters set at levels w...
